Join California Historical Society and its friends and partners for a day that celebrates its newest exhibition, ¡Murales Rebeldes!: L.A. Chicana/Chicano Murals under Siege. Meet us outside on Annie Street as well as inside our Gallery for fun craft projects, presentations, and music.
With public art and mural making at the center of the day, come meet non-profits, artists, muscians, crafters, and new and old friends from 11:00AM-4:00PM!
Special guests include: Precita Eyes Muralists Association, Peopleologie, Mexican Museum, Museum of Craft and Design, San Francisco Heritage, the artist Juana Alicia, and many others.
Schedule of the Day:
11:00AM-2:00PM Precita Eyes Muralists pop-up Community Mural making! Join us and help us paint a mural that represents our community (California Historical Society, Yerba Buena, San Francisco, and California).
11:00AM-2:00PM PRINTMAKING with Peopleologie: Try your hand at printmaking using visually bold ancient hieroglyphs recognized for their cultural and symbolic importance, and their place in ancient Mesoamerican calendars. You'll use Peopleologie's hand carved linoleum blocks, ink, rollers, and print a few on paper to send as cards or frame!
1:30PM-1:45PM Go into our Gallery and hear from mural artist Juana Alicia, Meera Desai about the stories behind the Womens' Building's Maestrapeace Mural and the kickstarter campaign to make those stories into a book! To learn more go to the kickstarter page.
11:00-4:00PM The Mexican Museum, Museum of Craft and Design, and San Francisco Heritage will provide helpful information and have craft projects for kids (and kids at heart) inspired by Murals and Public Art.
