Movie+ Panel: Brewers by the Bay- The History of Beer in SF

Come out for this special screening of a new documentary on the history of SF craft beer, with a panel discussion featuring the filmmaker Jared Stutts, ThirstyBear brewer Brenden Dobel, Author of San Francisco Beer: A History of Brewing by the Bay Bill Yennie, and Historian Tom Jacobs.

The history of brewing beer in San Francisco dates back to 1847, just a few short years before California became a state. Indeed, San Francisco was once known as the brewing capital west of the Mississippi, with over 70 breweries at one time. In this film, we learn how large consolidations, the earthquake and great fire of 1906, World War I, and Prohibition consolidated the industry to just a handful of large industrial breweries. Now, many decades later, the dust has settled. We have entered the craft brew era started by none other than Fritz Maytag, prior owner of the legendary Anchor Brewing Co. of San Francisco. In Brewers by the Bay host Brenden Dobel, Brewmaster of ThirstyBear Brewing Co., travels from San Francisco brewpub to brewery sharing beers with owners and brewers and discusses the past, present, and future liquid gold crafted by Brewers by the Bay.

Join us at the California Historical Society for the world-wide premeire of the Brewers by the Bay and enjoy a complimentary specialty beer tastings from several San Francisco breweries and snacks after the film!
