Holiday Bookstore Event: Make Your Own Notebook with LisaRuth

Carry CHS graphic postcards with you as functional note-taking devices. Drop by between 1 and 3 PM on Sunday, December 3, when LisaRuth will demonstrate two simple techniques for making handbound mini-notebooks from beautiful California Historical Society promotional postcards. Learn a simple signature binding, get a demonstration of Japanese stab binding, and make your own signature-bound mini-notebook to take home with you. All materials provided.

About the Artist

LisaRuth Elliott is the co-director of Shaping San Francisco—a project on community history, and recently produced the San Francisco History Days at the Old Mint. She has edited 4 books, leads San Francisco walking tours, and has taught local history at UC Berkeley, Stanford, SFAI, and USF. LisaRuth worked as a public muralist from 2005-2010. She is also a visual and textile artist, foregrounding the reuse of materials for her collage work and bookmaking.
